Inspired by her childhood growing up on the family farm in Illinois, Linda let her memories and her imagination mingle as she brought to life the charm of days gone by. Painting in oils and blending colors carefully as she worked, she painted with a free hand to let the character’s personality shine through. Linda especially loved portraying children and dogs, and her very own dogs, Mary Rose and Lily, are frequent figures in her paintings. Linda Nelson Stocks talents caught the eye of Bob Lang, founder of LANG Graphics, back in 1982. They never dreamed that the calendar they first created over his kitchen table would become a beloved annual tradition, drawing legions of new collectors over the years. For more than three decades, Linda did what she loved best, painting scenes of Americana that capture the spirit and promise of the land. From rustic farm-scapes to picturesque small-town idylls, she depicted families working and celebrating together—planting gardens, tending animals, gathering in the village square, or ice-skating on frosty afternoons. Linda’s delightful portraits of town and country life captivate folk art lovers not only in the United States, but also around the world. Upon her death in 2011, Linda bequeathed her art estate to Connecticut Community Foundation as a means of establishing a charitable fund. Linda believed in their mission of fostering creative partnerships to build rewarding lives and making a timeless impact in her adopted home state. Today, the Linda L. Nelson Fund provides ongoing critical support to help meet health related needs and address emerging health care issues in the region of Connecticut she called home. A newly energized licensing effort, spearheaded by industry-leading agency Courtney Davis, will tap into her deep archives to offer an expanded array of consumer gifts, stationery and wall products in the marketplace.
